BLEND files can store many different types of surface materials; these range from simple color-based materials to full-textured materials with support for glossiness, bump mapping, and other advanced effects.

If the model contains textured materials, these texture files are embedded within the main BLEND file to ensure it is easy to distribute Blender files without losing any texture information.
