The STEP file format, also known as ISO 10303-21, is a 3D file format used within the area of computer-aided design (CAD) as a way to exchange data between different applications. The STEP format is essentially a plain text file containing commands used to describe the 3D object.
Due to the standardized nature of the format, there is support for importing STEP files into many CAD applications. STEP files can, however, become quite large, and some complex files can take a long time to import into a 3D project.
Mesh Geometry
The STEP format is not a mesh-based format; converting a STEP file to a mesh format is possible via most CAD applications via a tessellate function.
STEP Converter Capabilities
As the STEP format currently does not support the use of material colors when used by tool, your converted model will contain only the mesh geometry, material colors will not be transferred to your converted file.

The Khronos Group created the DAE file, a 3D model file format. The format is an XML text-based format, storing the 3D model information in a standardized XML structure, ensuring it is easy to add additional features without introducing compatibility issues.
Many 3D editing applications support the importing and exporting of DAE files, including the popular 3D editor Blender.
Mesh Geometry
DAE files support mesh geometry along with various types of surface definitions, from simple triangles to full polygon meshes. It has support for face and vertex normals and texture coordinates too. Mesh elements defined within the XML structure can be shared between multiple 3D objects within the final rendered scene.

As the DAE format currently does not support the use of material colors in 3D models when created using our tool, your converted model will contain only the mesh geometry, material colors will not be transferred to your converted DAE file.
